Orthopedic surgeon. California Qualified Medical Evaluator in orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Steven J. Barad is an orthopedic surgeon whose clinical career focused on arthroscopic treatment of knee and shoulder problems and on adult reconstruction, including knee, hip and shoulder arthroplasty. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine, completed a general surgical internship at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Oakland, and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco. He practiced in Marin County and Sacramento before entering private practice at the Methodist Hospital campus in 1987, and from 1993 to 2018 he served as an independent contractor for U.S. Healthworks/Concentra, where his work dealt exclusively with workers’ compensation injuries. He retired from active clinical practice in 2023 and has published and presented on shoulder and knee surgery.

Why attorneys choose Dr. Barad

Dr. Steven J. Barad brings nearly four decades of orthopedic surgery to every evaluation. He practiced from 1984 until he retired from active practice in 2023, and for 25 years, from 1993 to 2018, he was an independent contractor for U.S. Healthworks/Concentra, where his work dealt exclusively with workers’ compensation injuries. Attorneys get an orthopedic evaluator who has spent a large part of his career treating the same kinds of work injuries he is now asked to evaluate.

He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco, with training in reconstructive bone and joint surgery at Moffitt/UCSF Hospital, adult and pediatric orthopedic trauma at San Francisco General Hospital, and a six-month rotation at Rancho Los Amigos focused on rehabilitation. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (certified 1987; recertified 1997 and 2007) and holds emeritus status with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Barad’s focus on arthroscopic knee and shoulder treatment and on knee, hip and shoulder arthroplasty is backed by published and presented work from 1982 to 2023. This includes articles in Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, The American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, a presentation at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and papers at the Leroy C. Abbott Society scientific programs of the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
